Re: The passing of a legend: Ed Kaspriske 1941-2019

I am sad to hear of Ed K's passing. I had never met Ed as the years he would be at Oak Ridge, I would not be and when I was there, he was not. Did meet Elwood B. I had talked with Ed over the phone a few times and had several VHS tapes and later DVD's. Always a nice guy, wanted to know what we did i...

Re: Bringing the bell down to a 277

I was lucky enough to get a set of Leslie bells that had been cut and shortened to create a 277, which is a cut down 25, and a 330. Which is a cut 31. On a 3 chime is it's nice, but on a 5 chime. It's the best.
Elwood used to do that.

Re: Horn Sound Notes

The K3LA's on the ATSF GP60's sounded different standing still and yes, coming at ya and going away. Doppler effect. Short direct air from the solenoid is what I was told from an insider that checked up close.
GP60's were leading many Hot Shots when they were fresh off assembly line for the Santa Fe.

Re: Horn Sound Notes

Those K3LA's that were on the ATSF order of GP 60's always sounded different. Those ran thur here all the time. An insider for the RR said there was nothing different about the horn. Just directly close to full supply of air and short piping to horn. I always thought there was a change of bells, may...

Re: Were Buell 5 Chime Horns originally meant for Railroads?

There was one 5 chime Buell. Maybe 2, don't remember for sure at Oak Ridge, years ago. They had a very nice sound, it may have been Fred Berry's. I think Draino brought it go the meet.. Was that the year Matt D. Was there? The days were fast paced and long, but good times. I probably have a recordin...

Re: "Let's see!" Thread!

Here is a Airchime horn that I won in a Calander contest from Nathan Airchime, Micro Precision years ago. Third place was this.

Re: "Let's see!" Thread!

Well dam, I have sold off all my special horns, most notably would be ex Amtrak SL-4T. Pictures still on the five chime site. Sold it to another collector and there are several videos on YouTube now. Another would be an early K5la that I got after the former owner was killed. Had his name on it. A g...
