Anyone Ever Built a Custom Air Compressor Rig?

Postby shane_man15 » Sun Mar 08, 2015 5:20 pm

Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever built their own custom air compressor setup? Like, buying a pump, motor, and all separately, and had any success doing so? Thought about going that direction with the mobile rig that would go in my truck. The issue would be finding a motor that will run on 12v.

umm.. well.. you might be ahead of the game by letting someone else do the actual engineering, such as matching motor to compressor size etc. I'm using of of these and it draws about 30 amps when tank pressure is high. I doubt if you'll be able to improve on its performance.

Addendum: I'm using its regulator output to charge 30 gallons of storage. My horn air comes from the storage and not the compressor regulator.

Check Craigslist for oasis compressors, I see XD 3000's and 4000's for less than $800 all the time, I bought my HP1000 for $400 and they guy even shipped it to me. The 1000's will burn up easier though, I burnt mine up and had to replace the pump. Went to a York engine driven (same pump) have burnt up 2 so far, They just aren't meant for heavy duty use, Im running 100 gallons. Now i went to a diesel engine driven compressor that lives in the bed of my truck.
