Leslie Date Identification Help

Postby CRLeslieLover » Thu Jul 05, 2018 9:15 am

Hello,

I have a Conrail RSL-3L-RF with Tampa RS back caps. The number on the tag is 8490017 which I believe is a GE part number(?), it doesn't appear to be an EMD part number. I was told the horn came from a Conrail C40-8W, which makes sense given those engines were built in the Tampa era. The horn also has just one layer of Conrail blue over the red primer.

My question is about the markings on the manifold, I haven't found too many sources for what those mean.

1. Under the tag is a slightly raised box with some markings. I believe mine say R 356.
2. On the front and rear of the manifold it has 7504.

Do these markings help date the horn and/or what do they mean?

Thanks for the help.

Both of those numbers are part / casting numbers. The date stamp would be located on the mounting flange near the bottom air inlet.

The date code guide can be found here:

Thanks! So just casting numbers. Got it.
