What kind of horn does UP 4141 have?

Postby Derailed 2005 » Fri Dec 07, 2018 7:46 pm

I heard it (via TV) on President Bush's funeral train yesterday.

It didn't sound so good, whatever it is.

.

Yes, Reed is right!

The horn is a K5LLA. UP 4141 was going through town close to where I live, but unfortunately, I had to go to school that day :x
When I got home I saw the train on the news. The day before they were running the funeral train they kept showing the engine A LOT, you can see these segments on YouTube, just look up Union Pacific 4141. When I was watching these clips they showed the train going through some crossings blasting the horn, which sounded like a K5LLA horn to me, also.

Man, I can only imagine in the future when that locomotive gets scrapped, someone will soon acquire that horn and put it up for sale on eBay as "HORNBLASTERS K5LA LOUD GREAT FOR TRUCKS" when the crazy trucker buyer tries to restore the horn they will probably use an angle grinder to get all the paint off. Man, I can't even tell you how many horns I have had to retexture because of angle grinder damage.

To be more specific on 4141s K5LLA; The Horn/Engine was built in 2005. It has a 2 piece sand cast 1L bell, and all non raised letter 1,2,3A,4A bells. They sound better than the new ones imho.

Over decade old video . Its the type of K5LLA with 5 unique notes. No octaves, and no 1L vs 4A in an almost-octave.
